LATEST NEWS - 9/5/07
It's VMA time and MTV representatives have reached out to us again to help spread the word about this year's ceremony. And they were right to do so. Here's why you should watch:
#1. Timbaland is the host. Seriously.
#2. This year's ceremony will only air ONCE on MTV as a live event.
#3. Performers include Daniel Merriweather, Timbaland (The Way I Are),
Rihanna, Chris Brown, Kanye West and Common!
We've heard from Kristal Miller, one of Johnny Gill's biggest supporters, and she has some news from the world of the Gill Family -- check this out below: **Randy Gill is Bringing Back R&B Music..in More Ways Than One**
Randy Gill, brother of Johnny Gill and member of the group II D Extreme, is bringing back R&B music in more ways than one!
For starters, he's been in the studio recording songs for his upcoming solo cd entitled "Gillology." The three songs he's previewing on his MySpace page (www.myspace.com/gillology) indicate this cd will give us R&B lovers plenty of that good music we've been missing.
"Ready 4 Me" is a sensuous ballad that promises "bathing, touching, tasting, anything you like." In this song, Randy not only shines as a songwriter and producer, but his vocal performance is emotionally and dramatically near perfection.
"Marry Me" is a heartfelt declaration of love and appreciation that is appropriately composed on the guitar. The simplicity of the composition and sincerity of the message make this song the ultimate background music for a romantic proposal.
A song he recently added, "Radio," may prove to be the most commercially successful of the three. Featuring the vocals of Dujour as the DJ, Remedy, and Jermaine Mickey (from II D Extreme), this song will appeal to anyone who enjoys good music and good singing.
In addition to his solo cd, Randy has also been in the studio with II D Extreme working on a project celebrating the group's 15th Anniversary. II D fans are anxiously awaiting preview music from this cd and you can be assured it will include that great composing, lyrics, singing, and harmony that II D does better than anyone.
And if that isn't enough, Randy is the host of a monthly R&B radio program called the BBRBR Listening Party. BBRBR stands for Bring Back R&B Radio. This program features a fan critique of three recently released R&B songs and is currently being broadcast on over a dozen online radio stations, including regular rotation on World Vibe (Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. CST).
Randy Gill can't single handedly bring back R&B to a place of prominence on radio, but he sure is doing his part. Check out his preview songs and let him know how you like them.

September is the NJS4E 20th Anniversary Celebration month, and the parties
just keep on coming! In addition to the concert taking place in Toronto today (we are
not directly involved with this), NJS4E will be affiliated with another London
party on 29th September -- check the flyer below for more details.
ONLY SIX DAYS UNTIL NYC WITH JOHNNY KEMP!
Have you RSVP-ed?
Please make it a point to attend DJ Freez + Elmer J's event in Amsterdam if
you are in the Netherlands next weekend! See below for more information:
It's Dat Ding!
In the house!!!
Oh...and on a somewhat random (but loosely related to NJS note....) Britney Spears has finally unveiled her latest track, "Gimme More."
Sounds like it was produced by Danja Handz (Timbaland)
Be sure to check out Keith Sweat online at the Sweat Hotel!
-----------------------------------------
We have to show some love to Disconnexions.com -- there is a wealth of video content and they are definitely "putting it down" for the New Jack and Golden Age Hip-Hop Eras.
They also have videos by groups like the Jets, Seduction...there's just a lot of love here.
Run, don't walk over to this site.
Well...some of you know by now that NJS4E's Official 20th Anniversaryof New Jack SwingParties are definitely happening this September. It's a Trans-Atlantic thing we're doing too.
First, we're kicking it off in what might be the "new" New Jack City...that city emerging as the premier city on the planet...the one and only LONDON.
NJS4E will emerge once again on the night of 1st September at Smollensky's for a celebration that is guaranteed to be unforgettable, featuring sets by NJS4E Fave Lady Gee, the absolutely fantabulous J.P., the well-known DJ Marko, and our very own JOde will be involved as well.
Will there be a mystery DJ? Will Knyte himself attempt to rock a UK NJS party?
We shall see. We shall definitely see.
THEN...7 days later....
NJS4E sets foot once again in the "original" New Jack City...what some people consider to be the very center of the world....the one and only NEW YORK CITY.
At this shindig, we will feature music by DJ Kev-Ski, who among other things was a part of Golden Era Hip-Hop duo Dr. Luv & Kev-Ski ("Ladies," "Overdose") and the original DJ of Doug E. Fresh.
Among the special guests who are hotly anticipated to make an appearance on this historic night is Johnny Kemp himself, who will be performing "Just
Got Paid" -- paying tribute to his role in kicking off the New Jack Spring Era back when his Secrets of Flying album hit record stores in December 1987.
These are exciting times for NJS4EVER.
In the meantime, be sure to RSVP to BOTH events while you still can, as we are expecting SELL-OUT conditions at both events. Universal Records is working with us as well to provide GUY: SPECIAL EDITION double CD-sets for those planning to attend our 20th Anniversary celebration. RSVP to find out how you can obtain a copy!
NJS4E would like to give props to the tastemakers of our day for supporting New Jack Swing
as of late...and we hope you will support their efforts so the current NJS revival can continue to inspire urban music that is much more positive in spirit than much of what is commercially available today in the world of Hip-Hop/R&B. They're helping us to do this!
This CD is a mix compilation by the East Coast-based "CMB" (Cosmo/Melker Brothers), made up of DJs Cosmo Baker and Scott Melker. This duo played the 07.18.07 NYC Party at Club Lotus that NJS4E co-hosted with Barry Michael Cooper and Nelson George.
Both DJs are highly influential among what marketers call the "early adopter" set -- Scott was even featured in Fader Magazine, a publication founded by two individuals who among other things worked promo at Arista during the now legendary mid-90s Bad Boy Records Era and were responsible for Sprite's KRS-One spear-headed hip-hop campaigns.
It's available for purchase, and you can do so by clicking the pic above. Here's the tracklisting:

Celebrating 20 Years of San Francisco's 106.1 KMEL
In 1987, San Francisco radio station 106.1 KMEL became one of the first pop stations to embrace "urban" music, by mixing in latin freestyle, hip-hop, and new jack swing into regular rotation. That summer, KMEL debuted the first ever "Summer Jam" concert.
NJS4E will be paying tribute to the KMEL legacy and its important contribution to the New Jack movement over the next year. For now, please enjoy this clip featuring the Notorious B.I.G. from the final 'extended run-time' Summer Jam, which took place in 1995.

NJS4E wishes to acknowledge and honor the legacy of the late
Godfather of Soul: James Brown.
His career spanned generations of music, and proved influential not only to his fans and followers, but music legends in their own right such as Michael Jackson and Prince.
While it should go without saying -- we will say it:
There would be no funk ('70s or '80s), no Hip-Hop, no performing like Michael, Prince,
Usher,
Diddy, no "Fight The Power," no Soul Power, the way we know it...without
James Brown. His contribution to the history of music cannot be overstated and we at
NJS4E salute his memory, his achievements, and again, his legacy.
Thank you for passion, sound, influence, and spirit.
Rest in Peace.

the late Gerald Levert. He passed away in his sleep of a heart attack on November 10th, 2006. His death is sad news for all of us who were fans of his music, and it is especially shocking to lose him at only 40 years of age. From his work with the trio Levert, artists like Troop, Keith Sweat, New Edition, and more, Gerald Levert will be warmly remembered.
Stay tuned for more commemoration of this R&B great.

Chicago radio station WSRB/Soul 106.3 has agreed to try a New Jack Swing-based format for the next eight weeks, sponsored by Miller Genuine Draft. You can listen to the New Jack format on this station between 6pm and 8pm Central Standard Time Mondays thru Thursdays!
This is the first instance EVER, that a major FM radio station anywhere on the planet has taken a New Jack Swing-based playlist seriously. And now is our chance to make a statement and make this New Jack Swing movement a reality!
If we want to bring New Jack Swing back, we must make this special program by WSRB a wild success.
We need you to do the following:
1. Befriend this station on Myspace
2. Leave comments congratulating them on the New Jack Swing format
3. Spead the word & listen online at http://www.soul1063radio.com
Click the Miller Genuine Draft Logo below to listen to the promo!!!
Last but not least, it should be mentioned that this could not have happened without the direct involvment of two individuals: Ducky for recognizing New Jack Swing as a viable solution for MGD and WSRB, and Knyte for serving as the musical consultant to the project. NJS4E does it again!!! And we'll keep on doing it!
The movement is now officially taking off in the United States!
It's Showtime, People!
